Vacuum Clean with hand
So much dirt settles on the sofa due to the fact that they are available for you, your guests and pets. Dirt and grime like grease, pet hair, specks of dust and many others build up on your sofa and inside the corner, you can’t see very easily.
Solution: Get your hands over a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment to clean all debris, food crumbs on the surface. Try to detach your cushions if they are not permanently attached and clean the crevices too. A lint roller can come in handy if there is too much pet hair.
WIPE WITH LIQUID SOAP
Some dirt won’t leave until you apply some quantity of soap solution. Wipe with a clean cloth dipped in a warm solution of soap and water.
Clean all the wooden areas properly and find the tag on your materials to see the type of materials your sofa is made of and follow the instructions properly.
Here are the most common codes found on labels:
WS: Use a mild detergent with a steam vacuum or a dry-cleaning detergent
S: Use a dry cleaner detergent only.
X: Use a vacuum only. No water.
W: You can use water to clean it.
Follow the formula
Depending on the fabric type of your sofa, there are homemade ingredients you can use to clean your upholstery to get the best results.
For synthetic upholstery, mix 1/2 cup of vinegar, 1 cup of warm water, and 1/2 tablespoon of liquid dish soap or castile soap in a spray bottle. Mist the soiled area and scrub with a soft cloth till the stain is gone.
For fabric upholstery, mix 1/4 cup vinegar, 3/4 warm water and 1 tablespoon for dish soap or Castile soap. Put in a spray bottle. Mist the soiled area. Scrub with a soft cloth until the stain lifts. Use a second cloth moistened with clean water to remove the soap. Dry with a towel.
For leather upholstery, mix 1/2 cup olive oil with 1/4 cup vinegar and put into a spray bottle. Spray the cleaner on the surface of the couch and buff with a soft cloth.
Dry off completely
After your cleaning, hand press all parts of your sofa to feel any part with excess water. Apply towel on any part you detect excess water to dry off and place a fan to speed dry it. This will avoid your upholstery from mildewing.
