The dishwasher is an excellent modern invention that has made a big house chore a lot easier and quicker to do. However, with all appliances in the kitchen, your dishwasher no matter what brand it is has certain limitations. So the next time you’re about to throw something in your dishwasher, think twice about whether it’s even safe to clean it in the machine. In that case, you’ll have to put on your kitchen gloves and get down to some manual dishwashing.

This blog post discusses all the things that you can’t clean in the dishwasher. Although not all of them are susceptible to the same amount of damage, it’s still a good idea to keep them away from the dishwasher and clean them by hand.

Copper utensils

Copper is a common material used in cookware but it’s not so great to clean in the dishwasher. You might not notice any damage on the first time you clean it in a dishwasher but overtime, copper does ge damaged and its lifespan shortens.

Stainless Steel

Stainless steel is another popular material used in almost every household. The issue with stainless steel is that not all of it is made with the same quality. Some better quality ones can be cleaned in the dishwasher safely but just to stay on the safe side, it’s best to steer clear of the appliance.

Aluminum and Cast Iron

These metals are sometimes used in cookware. They can easily get damaged and scratched in the dishwasher so it’s best to wash them by hand with warm water and gentle scrubbing.

Non-stick utensils

Another fragile material used in cookware is non-stick metal. This is prone to damage even when you wash it by hand so putting them in a dishwasher is an absolute no. When cleaning these utensils by hand, gentle scrubbing with the sponge is the way to go. Scrubbing it with metal will tear the non-stick surface, rendering it useless.

Other items that should not be cleaned in the dishwasher are kitchen knives, fancy china crockery, wooden utensils and plastic boxes.
